Devils Lake resident Tricia Traynor was one of the many parents who brought their children to the “teddy bear picnic” at the Lake Region Heritage Center on Friday, which was National Teddy Bear Day.
“As a kid my dad would take me to (museums in Washington D.C.) every weekend, and I’d groan and drag our feet at the time,” she said. “But now I’m happy that I had that experience! And I want the same for my kids.”
Traynor’s children, Mary, 7, Mack, 5, and Joshua, 2, were in the crowd that listened to the book “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic.” with teddy bears in their laps. The presentation continued in the recently renovated Lake Region Heritage Center basement, where a slideshow showed the history of the teddy bear, and how former President Theodore Roosevelt established Sullys Hill National Game Preserve near Devils Lake.
