The time for media bell-ringing has arrived.
From 1 to 8 p.m. today, employees of the Grand Forks Herald and WDAZ-TV will work the kettles to raise money - with your generous assistance - for The Salvation Army.
Herald workers will be at Wal-Mart, while WDAZ staff will be at the Home of Economy. It's the second consecutive year of kettle campaigning by the two Grand Forks area media outlets, both owned by Forum Communications Co.
The Herald and WDAZ are offering promotions to attract visitors to its kettles. Anyone who makes a donation will have the chance to guess the total of what will be raised at the two sites during the seven hours. The winning guess will win $200 worth of gift certificates.
Also, both sites will give the "Flood of Memories" DVD set to anyone donating $20 or more. WDAZ produced the two-disc set, which includes a digital transfer of its 1997 flood tape, "Force of Nature." It has been selling for $19.

The Wal-Mart site attractions include Santa Claus, Herald canine mascot Browser, columnist Marilyn Hagerty and complimentary candy canes.
The Home of Economy kettles will have WDAZ on-air personnel, including TV fisherperson Ernie the Angler.
