FARGO -- A Kansas man was sentenced Wednesday in Fargo's federal court to 6½ years in prison and 10 years of supervised probation for possessing and transporting child pornography.

Kenneth Mahoney Jr., Topeka, Kan., pleaded guilty in October after he was stopped in Pembina, N.D., at the U.S.-Canada port of entry.

Authorities said Mahoney, an over-the-road truck driver, had purchased multiple subscriptions to a child pornography website.

When he was stopped at the border, agents found a laptop as well as compact discs and DVDs that contained more than 6,000 images depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, authorities said.
