BISMARCK (AP) -- The No. 2 official at the U.S. Department of Justice is coming to North Dakota to talk about public safety on American Indian reservations.

Deputy Attorney General James Cole is scheduled to be the keynote speaker Thursday morning at a tribal conference in Bismarck.

Timothy Purdon, the U.S. attorney for North Dakota, says the conference will bring together tribal officials and law enforcement leaders from across the state.

Purdon says Cole's appearance at the conference underscores the importance of tackling domestic violence and other crimes in Indian country.
