The North Dakota Highway Patrol is attempting to notify the families of the three people killed and seven injured in a two-car wreck Tuesday evening west of Grand Forks on U.S. Highway 2.

The crash occurred about 6:45 p.m. when a white international semi and a white passenger van collided about five miles west of Grand Forks. Both vehicles were traveling westbound.

Three of the 10 occupants of the Chevrolet Express passenger van were killed in the crash , others were hospitalized.

“The injuries range from fatalities to very minor,” Lt. Troy Hischer of the Highway Patrol said Wednesday morning.

He said troopers last had contact with those injured at about 1 a.m., and are working on gathering injury statuses Wednesday morning.

The semi driver, a 43-year-old Northwood, N.D. man, “was just shaken up” in the crash.

Hischer said the agency hopes to release a full report of the fatalities and injuries in the crash by noon today.

“The issue with this one is notification,” he said.

It is not immediately known if the van occupants were a part of a group or club. Hischer said those in the van ranged in ages, but he believed all were adults. The driver of the van was a 43-year-old Grand Forks woman.

Traffic around the scene was diverted or significantly delayed for about two hours while first responders worked the accident, Hischer said.

It was a long night for troopers in the Grand Forks region, some of whom had to leave the scene of a two car crash with injuries near Grafton, N.D., to assist in responding to the fatal crash.
