GF girl wins PBS writers contest

Katie Snyder of Grand Forks won first place in Prairie Public Broadcasting's 2011 PBS Kids Go! Writers Contest for her story, "Clockwise."

The contest encourages children to create stories with their own words and illustrations. Read first-place and Red Ribbon Favorite stories at www.prairiepublic.org .

DECA honors students

Four Red River High School students won the 2011 DECA Marketing Education Outstanding Member Award. They are seniors Jacque Mosher, Jade Stanislowski, Puja Thakker and Jared Vigen.

The annual award from the Red River Marketing Department recognizes achievement in academic excellence, leadership, DECA, school and community service.

Students also won "I am DECA-cated" awards for the fourth quarter. They are Introduction to Marketing: Jordyn Schall; Marketing I: Vanessa Bakken, Jessica Lancaster and McKenna King; Marketing II: Jordin Innes and Kayla Knoll; and School Store: Puja Thakker.
