Icy roads contribute to rollovers in Polk, Roseau counties

Three people suffered non life-threatening injuries Wednesday night when their 2001 Chevy Tahoe rolled and came to rest on its roof after the driver tried to pass a vehicle on State Highway 11 in Roseau County and lost control.

The road was icy. The accident happened near mile marker 59 about 7:30 Wednesday night.

According to the State Patrol, Bruce Shaugabay, 28, or Warroad was the driver. Rodney Hamlin, 14, Warroad, and Andrew Hipwell, 30, no address available, were the passengers.

Elsewhere, a Fosston, N.D., driver apparently escaped injury when he lost control of his car and rolled it while traveling east on U.S. Highway 2 west of McIntosh, Minn., late Wednesday night.

The Minnesota State Patrol in Thief River Falls reported that the crash was reported about 11:25 p.m. Wednesday near milepost 61 west of McIntosh in Polk County.

Gene Irelan, 23, was driving east on U.S. 2 in a 1993 Buick LeSabre when he lost control on ice, left the road on the right side and rolled the vehicle.

Neither accident report said whether drivers or passengers were wearing seat belts.
