Colorado College coach Scott Owens said he's looking for players to step up and put the puck in the net now that Marty Sertich and Brett Sterling have departed. After Sunday's exhibition, it appears the Tigers are still looking. Despite outshooting Calgary 52-14, CC lost the game 4-2.

Another team looking for more scoring this season is Alaska Anchorage, which averaged fewer than two goals per game last season. In the first exhibition, the Seawolves got good results, piling up nine goals against the U.S. Under-18 team, a squad that beat Alaska (Fairbanks) the day before.

George Gwozdecky said he's concerned about the way his team took penalties in its exhibition game against Calgary last weekend. The Pioneers piled up 21 minor penalties, giving the Dinos 16 power plays. Denver was able to rally and win the game 6-3, however.

The Badgers will return to the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis., for their opening series against Northern Michigan this weekend. The arena is where Wisconsin topped Cornell in triple overtime to reach the Frozen Four last season.

Sophomores will be on display when UND takes on Quinnipiac this weekend. The Bobcats had the No. 2 freshman scoring trio in the country last season (44 goals). The only team to top them was UND, which saw T.J. Oshie, Jonathan Toews and Ryan Duncan combine for 62 goals.
