RED WING, Minn. -- A hiker fell part way down Barn Bluff in Red Wing, but clung to a tree until help arrived.

The Red Wing Fire Department received a call at 2:22 p.m. Sunday reporting a person stranded on the bluff, a popular hiking area near the Mississippi River. Firefighters reached the victim in about 10 minutes, Capt. Jim Eppen said in a statement.

The victim had been on an upper trail when he stumbled or fell. Firefighters found him 25 to 30 feet above the base of the trail, hanging on to a tree to prevent himself from falling farther. Firefighters were able to climb a trail up to the victim, the press release stated. Once there, they put the victim in a rescue harness and used a rope to lower him to safety.

The victim was uninjured and refused medical treatment or transportation, Eppen said.
