Construction and a related detour on Minnesota Highway 220 north of East Grand Forks to Highway 1 at Alvarado, Minn., has been delayed until Aug. 9, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The work originally was set to begin Monday.

Starting Aug. 9, northbound traffic will be detoured east to Polk County Road 21 to U.S. Highway 75, then north on Highway 75 to Highway 1. Southbound traffic will follow the same detour in reverse.

MNDOT said access to residences and businesses in the construction zone will be maintained, but all other traffic will be required to use the detour. The detour is expected to last 12 days, after which restricted traffic will be allowed through the construction zone. Flaggers and a pilot car will be present. The work is expected to be completed by mid-September.

The overall project consists of culvert replacements, lighting, bituminous milling, resurfacing and additional turn lanes, MNDOT said.
