UND team launches rocket in NASA contest

A UND student team launched its competition rocket Saturday as part of the NASA's Student Launch Project.

The project challenges middle, high school and college students to design, build and launch a reusable rocket one mile above ground while carrying a scientific or engineering payload.

Cultural event to be held at Mayville State

A cultural event featuring exhibits, food and dance will be held Friday at Mayville (N.D.) State University.

Featuring cultures from around the world, the 30 exhibits will be at the Campus Center Fishbowl 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The music and dance portion of the event will be 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Classroom Building Auditorium.

General named BSU's 'Distinguished Minnesotan'

Lt. Gen. Thomas Waldhauser, senior military assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Defense, has been named the 2013 recipient of Bemidji State University's Distinguished Minnesotan award.

Waldhauser, a 1976 alumnus, will be honored during the university's commencement ceremony May 10 at the Sanford Center in Bemidji.

The award acknowledges the contributions of current or former residents of Minnesota who perform exemplary service to the state or the United States. Past recipients include former Sen. Paul Wellstone.

NCTC offers motorcycle training

Northland Community and Technical College's Center for Outreach and Innovation will offer motorcycle training courses May through August.

Basic courses are taught over two or three days and offer 4½ hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of practice on motorcycle. A more advanced course, Basic Rider II, is a one-day, five-hour course. Both will be taught in East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls and Bemidji.
