UND program serves ELLs
This spring, UND will launch two online graduate programs to help educators learn the skills and techniques necessary to work with a growing population of English language learners.
UND's online Graduate Certificate and Master of Education in ELL Education programs will begin in January. Both programs are fully online; students are not required to come to the UND campus at any time.
The ELL programs prepare teachers to work with children and adults learning English. The programs meet the requirements for ELL teacher endorsement in North Dakota, as well as most other states.

Med school's Sens new NAME leader
Mary Ann Sens, professor and chair of the Department of Pathology at UND, recently was elected president of the National Association of Medical Examiners.
The National Association of Medical Examiners is the national professional organization of physician medical examiners, medical death investigators and death investigation system administrators.
The group has more than 1,000 members globally.
Sens has been chairwoman of the Department of Pathology since 2002. She is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology and licensed to practice medicine in North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota and South Carolina.
UND professor honored
Thomas Mohr, Chester Fritz Distinguished professor and chairman of the Department of Physical Therapy at UND's School of Medicine and Health Sciences, recently was honored by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy at its annual meeting in Denver.
Mohr received the 2010 Richard McDougall Long-Term Service Award, which recognizes individuals who have made a lasting, significant and distinguished contribution to the federation.

Mohr's areas of expertise and research are in neuroscience, biomechanics, electromyography and motion analysis.
UND law school to hear Supreme Court arguments
The North Dakota Supreme Court will hear four oral arguments today and Tuesday in UND's School of Law.
In addition to hearing cases, the UND Law students will have the court judge the final argument of the internal Fall Moot Court competition. The court also will lecture in classes and interact with law students and faculty through special sessions.

UND to host Swedish scholar
The UND Department of Modern & Classical Languages & Literatures will host Swedish scholar Kerstin Bergman at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the East Asian Room of the Chester Fritz Library.
Bergman will speak about "Negotiating Swedishness in the 21st Century -- Swedish, European, and African alterities in Henning Mankell's crime novels."

Bergman is a senior research fellow of comparative literature at Lund University, Sweden.
UND to host BBC broadcaster
The UND Center for Human Rights and Genocide Studies will host journalist and scholar James Boys, the British Broadcasting Corp.'s chief U.S. political correspondent, for a weeklong fellowship starting today.
Boys was at UND the past spring as a visiting fellow to conduct research for papers he'll present here next week.

A social for alumni of the University of Minnesota-Crookston is set for Nov. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ramada Plaza Suites and Convention Center in Fargo, 1635 42nd St. S.
