- Pancake breakfast: The American Red Cross and Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar will support local disaster relief services with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Applebee's in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.
Tickets for the Pancake Breakfast benefit are being sold for $5 at the local Red Cross chapters. They also may be purchased at the door.
- Walkathon and car wash: Viking Elementary School's Parent Teacher Organization is sponsoring a walkathon from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a car wash from noon to 4 p.m. both on Saturday at the school to raise money for new playground equipment. - Ethiopia Reads: Ben Franklin Elementary School has invited families to "clean out" books they may have outgrown for its "bring a Book, Buy a Book" sale Monday and Tuesday at the school.

- Children's memorial: The Compassionate Friends of Grand Forks is sponsoring a memorial gathering at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the flood memorial in downtown Grand Forks for parents who have lost a child.

- Poppy Day: Members of the American Legion will distribute poppies May 23 at Grand Forks malls and grocery stores to coincide with Memorial Day weekend. Wearing the poppy pays tribute to all veterans who have served their country. The Poppy Program has been a tradition with the American Legion since World War I.
- Ali's Playground: About 100 volunteers are needed May 27-28 at Ali's Boundless Playground in Grand Forks' Sertoma Park to construct a smaller section of play equipment for children as old as 3. Call (701) 772-3148 for more information.
The playground will not be open to the public until sometime in June so concrete and surfacing can be poured and dried.
- RiverView Foundation Golf Classic: RiverView Foundation, the fundraising organization for RiverView Health in Crookston, will hold its fifth annual Golf Classic starting at 11:30 a.m. June 8 at Minakwa Golf Course in Crookston.

- Ride for Jared: Registration begins at 9 a.m. June 20 at Lion's Den Bar in Lankin, N.D., for the bike and car run in memory of Jared Udby. Proceeds will go to charities chosen by the family.
The ride will hit the road about 11 a.m., with stops in Pisek, Park River, Adams, Michigan and Peterburg, then return to Lankin for a freewill supper at 6 p.m.
