Helen Arvada Haas, age 97 of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Valley Eldercare Center of Grand Forks.
Helen Arvada Bowe was born September 20, 1911 in Ashippun, WI; the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Helen Dorathea (Anderson) Bowe. She grew up and attended school in Wisconsin. She later attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN.
Helen was united in marriage to Arnold Haas on July 15, 1943 in Neosho, Missouri. Helen lived with her parents in Wisconsin while Arnold served overseas during World War II. Following his discharge the couple returned to Park River where they farmed with Arnold's brother Lloyd until 1979. The couple moved to Grand Forks in October of 1998. Arnold died September 21, 2001.
Helen was a member of the Victory Free Lutheran Church and WMF of Park River, ND, she served on the Park River School Board and was a member of the Park River Hospital Auxiliary. She served as the organist for Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church for 33 years.
Helen is survived by her son Arthur (Jan) Haas, Grand Forks, ND; three granddaughters and three great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five brothers: Leon, Roy, Fred, Irving and Clarence.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at the Victory Free Lutheran Church of Park River.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Cemetery, rural Park River.
