Grand Forks resident Brenda Halle has been selected to appear in a national television ad for Mutual of Omaha during the spring of 2015.
Halle, who lost her house during the flood of 1997, recorded a 30-second ad about the experience for the company this summer as part of their Aha Moment Tour. The tour visited 20 cities in the U.S. to record stories of pivotal moments that altered people’s perspective on life.
Halle’s ad was chosen as one of 10 finalists out of nearly 1,000. The finalists were put on the company’s website for voting, and a combination of votes and a decision by a Mutual of Omaha advisory committee was used to determine Halle and her ad as the winner.
Halle said she found out when a friend called her after checking the website for the ad competition results. Halle then checked her email and saw that she had indeed won.
“I was honored that they chose me,” Halle said. “My mother is absolutely, totally thrilled.”

Halle said she’ll be contacted in the coming months to know when and on what channel the ad will be airing.
“I think people are more excited to see me on TV than I am,” Halle joked. “It is exciting and I’m humbled by it. It’s quite something.”
