UND business economics student Ross Lien will seek the Republican endorsement to represent District 42 in the North Dakota Senate, he announced Tuesday.

The Bismarck native said he would focus on keeping the state's business atmosphere "competitive" and creating an environment that allows businesses to "flourish" while diversifying the economy.

"Growing up in a military family, I have always felt an obligation to serve my community," he wrote. "My personal experience in the Army National Guard has only strengthened my sense of duty and willingness to serve."

District 42, which includes the UND campus and surrounding neighborhoods, is now represented in the Senate by Democrat Mac Schneider. Grand Forks Republicans will endorse their candidate at 7 p.m. today at the GuestHouse Inn, 710 First Ave. N.
