After a mostly dry spring, Grand Forks finally received a notable amount of rain this week.

The city saw about 1.7 inches of rain from Sunday night through Wednesday afternoon.

A Sunday storm dropped about half an inch on Grand Forks.

More precipitation came early Tuesday and Wednesday brought another 0.7 inches of rain fell by 4:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

Though Wednesday's total wasn't the final measurement of the day, meteorologist technician Bill Barrett said it was likely Grand Forks would not see much of an increase by the end of the day since the rain had tapered off after 5 p.m.

About 5.1 inches of precipitation has been recorded so far this year in Grand Forks, which is on par with the normal, Barrett said.

More rain is on the way this week, according to the weather service. Showers are expected Thursday afternoon, with thunderstorms moving into the area for the weekend.
