An attempted armed robbery Tuesday morning in Grand Forks' near-south side is under investigation, the police department said.

A man in a black hoodie and black bandana allegedly struck the victim in the head with the butt of a black handgun at around 6:30 a.m., police said.

The victim was driving south on South Cherry Street when he stopped at a stop sign at 13th Avenue South. The suspect allegedly approached the victim's vehicle, struck the victim and demanded money.

The victim had minor injuries but was able to drive away without losing any property, police said.

The suspect is described as possibly white, blond and about 6 feet tall.
