Grand Forks police officers issued 230 tickets in November during their month-long "Click It or Ticket" campaign, the police department said.
Out of the total number of tickets, 13 percent were for failing to wear a seatbelt, which is a marked improvement over enforcement campaigns of the past, according to police data. In 2012, it was 18 percent and, in 2011, 16 percent. In 2008, it was 28 percent.
Police also ticketed many speeders during the campaign, with the average speed of 12 mph faster than the posted speed limit. State law does not allow officers to ticket drivers for seatbelt violations unless police stop the drivers for some other violation, such as speeding.
