A Grand Forks man was behind bars Wednesday after leading officers on a car chase across county lines, while accompanied by an infant and female passenger, ending with a foot pursuit in city limits.

Grand Forks Police say Cody Leon Norman, 21, fled Walsh County Sheriff’s deputies when they attempted to pull him over Tuesday evening. Norman, driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, led deputies into Grand Forks, where local police took over the pursuit at 8:29 p.m., according to a news release.

A 4-month-old child and adult female passenger were in the vehicle during the pursuit, police say. The woman was not arrested.

Within city limits, the chase averaged speeds between 50 and 55 mph.

Norman abandoned his car in the 2500 block of Knight Drive and was captured after a brief foot chase, according to the release.

Officers have recommended charges against Norman for fleeing in a motor vehicle, refusing to halt, driving under suspension, and child neglect or endangerment.

Norman had an outstanding warrant in Grand Forks County for failing to comply with court-ordered community service stemming from convictions for drug possession and driving with a suspended license in January, court records show. Police say he also has an outstanding warrant in Polk County.
