A Grand Forks man is facing charges after investigators said he received an ounce of heroin in the mail last month.
Destry Lenoward Simmons, 54, could spend up to 10 years behind bars if convicted of felony possession of heroin with intent to deliver.

An affidavit for his arrest said Grand Forks Narcotics Task Force agents assisted with a probation search at Simmons' apartment on the 1800 block of Sixth Avenue North on March 31. There was a bag containing a half-gram of methamphetamine found in the apartment, officers said. He is facing felony charges in another case for possession of methamphetamine.
There was a report earlier in the day that Simmons received a suspicious package in the mail, the affidavit said. When officers opened the USPS package addressed to Simmons, they found about an ounce of heroin inside a black and pink purse, the affidavit said.

Simmons was on probation for selling heroin near a school in 2017.
He is scheduled to enter a plea May 24.
