A Grand Forks man who accidentally shot himself in the leg has been released from the hospital, an Altru nursing supervisor said Monday.
Ron Delp, 31, was sitting on his couch, taking apart his .40-caliber handgun shortly after midnight Saturday, said Grand Forks Police Lt. Grant Schiller.
"He was trying to tear it down to, I assume, clean it," Schiller said. "And all of a sudden it went off."
Schiller said a round left in the chamber struck Delp in the right thigh, and the bullet became lodged in the couch.
Police said Delp's girlfriend helped him put pressure on the wound, and a belt was used as a tourniquet. Paramedics who responded to Delp's home on the 300 block of North Eighth Street bandaged his leg, placed him on a backboard and took him to Altru.
