The Grand Forks Fire Department has concluded that an apartment fire at 710 Fourth Ave. S. Wednesday night was caused by unattended cooking.
The fire was confined to the kitchen, causing severe fire and smoke damage. The rest of the apartment suffered moderate smoke damage.
The fire department urged residents to make sure their smoke detectors are working and never to leave cooking unattended.
