Grand Forks’ Community Violence Intervention Center hosted a rally Thursday at the Empire Arts Center to help break the silence against domestic violence.
The rally began with food from local restaurants and an art show featuring artwork made by members of CVIC support groups. One artist, Connie R., painted a facsimile of a room from her childhood to help reclaim power over her abuser.
After the art show, rally participants watched videos advocating the prevention of domestic violence, as well as speaking up to help end it.

After introductory remarks from CVIC workers, Lexi Hanson took the stage to recount her own experience with domestic violence and sexual assault.
Through her time with CVIC, Hanson said she has been able to move forward and become an advocate for others.
“I have learned not to be a victim, but a victor,” she said.
