Grafton School District residents will vote Oct. 3 on a $19 million project to build a Central Middle School addition at the Grafton High School-Century Elementary School campus.
The decision comes after the school board learned that it would cost more than $7.5 million to renovate and upgrade the present Central Middle School, according to a report by KXPO Radio. The oldest portion of Central Middle
School was built in 1934.
Officials from Johnson Controls, Grand Forks, told district officials that in addition to the high cost of renovation, the present building's classrooms are too small and the proposed improvements could not be considered a long-term solution.
The measure will take a 60-percent majority to pass.
