FARGO - A 4- or 5-year-old girl nearly drowned Wednesday at a pond near Mooreton, N.D.
The girl was swimming in Mooreton Pond when her great aunt got distracted and lost sight of the girl, said Dep. Jerry Arneson of the Richland County Sheriff's Office.
Other visitors to the pond began searching for the girl, who was underwater for several minutes before a 20-year-old man located her in about 3 feet of water, Arneson said.
Two people performed CPR, and the girl had regained a pulse and blood pressure when she was taken by LifeFlight to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, Arneson said.
A MeritCare spokeswoman could not give any information about the girl's condition Wednesday evening.

The girl may have slipped on a rock and went underwater without a breath, and it's a reminder for parents to not leave children unattended, Arneson said.
"Especially when you're at a lake, you gotta watch your kids," he said.
