Coach Bina says: "We're going to be fairly young, but we have a good core of senior leaders, too, guys who have been around two to three years. They'll be able to teach these younger guys a little bit. . . . I think these younger guys have the ability to contribute. . . . One of the biggest question marks is we have three goalies with little or no experience at the varsity level; it's going to be interesting to see who steps up. . . . One of our goals is to get back to the state tournament, definitely compete to be in the top three to four spots in the East Region, then go from there and make a run at state. . . . We have some depth this year and there will be some competitiveness to see who's going to play game in and game out."

Red River

Coach: Matt Malm.

2006-07 record: 24-3, state champion.

Key returners: Sr. F Eric Meland (all-state, 27 goals, 26 assists); sr. D Jarrett Galbreath (all-state, 6 goals, 14 assists); sr. D Ryan LaDouceur (all-state, 6 goals, 21 assists); sr. G Pat Arnason (1.14 goals-against average, 94 save percentage); sr. F Nick Schaefer (9 goals, 16 assists); sr. F Andrew Vigen (21 goals, 17 assists); jr. F Russel Crary (18 goals, 21 assists); jr. F Jordan Bancroft; jr. F Keith Howe; soph. D Chris Waind.; sr. D Nick Walters.

Key newcomer: Sr. F Alex Simonson.

Coach Malm says: "We do have a lot of experience. Our top three scorers are back. Out of our top nine scorers from last year, we have six of them back. I think we have good goaltending with Pat Arnason. We're very good with Jarrett and Ryan back on defense. I think our depth is a strength. . . . We're not arrogant. There are some expectations on this team, and I don't want them to get caught up in what other people expect of them. I guess we tried to tell them that potential doesn't win games."

Coach: Cory Chupka.

2006-07 record: 13-13-1, lost in Section 8A semifinals.

Key returners: Sr. F John Grabanski (17 goals, 19 assists); soph. F Jake Useldinger (16 goals, 12 assists); sr. F Michael Lukkason (10 goals, 13 assists); sr. F Joey Wikoff (12 goals, 15 assists); sr. goalie Alex Christiansen (3.56 goals-against average, 90.1 save percentage); sr. D Kody Vizenor.

Key newcomers: Jr. F Macauley Useldinger; soph. F Casey Ristau; soph. D Brandon Peabody.

Coach Chupka says: "Our passing and skating and just overall offense I think is going to be pretty good. We just had some scrimmages in Warroad and we have some guys who are working together hard and passing and moving the puck and getting up and down the ice. Our experience is a strength. We have a lot of seniors. . . . I'd say we have to work on our defense more than anything. Alex (Christiansen) has great fundamentals. He's a big goalie who moves smoothly and is just a great competitor, too."
