GFPD: 65 reports of broken windows since March 1

A rash of criminal mischief continues even after the Grand Forks Police Department arrested a juvenile suspect in connection with several broken windows on vehicles and buildings.

A rash of criminal mischief continues even after the Grand Forks Police Department arrested a juvenile suspect in connection with several broken windows on vehicles and buildings.

The police department has received 65 reports of broken windows since March 1.

Det. Travis Benson said officers arrested a juvenile suspect who's believed to be responsible for "some of these, but not all of them."

"Reports are still coming in after he was locked up," he said.

Benson said most of the reports were for broken car windows, but several homes and businesses also were hit in the vandalism spree over the past two months.

Most of the vandalism, which has been reported across town, appeared to be caused by a BB or pellet gun. But Benson said marbles, rocks or "just a random item" also were used to break windows.

He said residents should be observant of suspicious vehicles or people and report any additional vandalism.

Authorities continue to investigate the incidents. Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call the Grand Forks Police Department at (701) 787-8000 or CrimeStoppers at (701) 746-1000.
