A man called 911 on Monday afternoon after shooting himself in the leg while trying to fix his handgun, according to the Grand Forks Police Department.
Officers were called to 1426 10th Ave. N. at 12:37 p.m. and had to force open the locked apartment door upon arrival. The victim was found in a back bedroom with a gunshot wound to his upper leg and was transported to Altru Hospital by ambulance.
The man, whose condition and identity have not yet been released, told authorities that a 9 mm pistol recovered at the scene accidentally went off while he was trying to fix it. The incident is still under investigation.
