A Grand Forks man injured in a motorcycle crash near Devils Lake is in serious condition at MeritCare in Fargo, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday evening.

Rick Lacey, 54, was first taken to Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake after his 2008 Harley Davidson collided with a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup driven by 15-year-old Brandon Clouse on Sunday afternoon. Lacey was later airlifted to MeritCare, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Lacey was about a mile east of Devils Lake, heading west on Highway 19, when he struck the pickup from behind as it was turning.

"Lacey did not see Clouse until it was too late, then attempted to swerve around Clouse as he was turning left," states a Patrol news release.

Before impact, Lacey dropped the bike on its left side and slid into the back of the pickup.
