The Grand Forks Foundation for Education announced Thursday that 12 different school projects in Grand Forks will share $10,859 in fall funding.

That funding will be used for a variety of materials and experiences for all grade levels. For example, a mini-grant given to Diana Iverson at Lake Agassiz Elementary will afford students the opportunity to build and operate a miniature wind turbine to help them learn about wind energy in North Dakota.

Recipients

The fall 2007 grant recipients were:

-- Lana Wages, Friends Forever, $280.

-- Jim Whalen, Central High School, for the Knowledge Masters Competition, $490.

-- Tony Bina, Red River High School Tech Ed class, for a CNC modeler, $1,200.

-- Diana Iverson, Lake Agassiz Elementary, for the wind energy project, $384.

-- Renae Hillestad, Lake Agassiz, for first grade math stations, $500.

-- Carolyn Olson, Red River's physical education department, for Bosu Balance trainers in the classroom, $1,000.

-- Cathy Woidtke, Central, and Dianna Fite, Red River, for CDs to develop reading skills, $1,000.

-- Dani Rowekamp, Red River, medical careers program, for two Little Annie CPR training packs, $1,300.

-- Carmyn Juntunen, Community High School, for library enrichment project for silent sustained reading, $400.

-- Kristen Marcott, Twining Elementary and Middle School special education department, for social story iPods, $1,305.

-- Jeff Compton, Central, for student response system for the technology education department, $1,500.

-- Cathy Williams, Red River, for student response remotes for interactive math, $1,500.
