Grand Forks County has scheduled early voting hours for the Nov. 2 general election during a nine-day span in late October.

One election polling site, located on the Sixth Floor of the County Office Building, 151 S. Fourth St., Grand Forks, will be open from Oct. 21-29, except Sunday, Oct. 24. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

"Early voting is a convenient way to beat the rush on Election Day," said Debbie Nelson, county finance and tax director.

The early voting option is provided in addition to the Election Day and absentee voting options traditionally offered by the county. The Grand Forks County Commission approved the opening of an early voting site for those planning to vote in the upcoming general election.

Early voting operates similarly to precinct voting on Election Day, using the same tabulation equipment and an election board running the polling site, Nelson said. The main difference is that vote totals are not tallied until the close of the polls on Election Day. Voters who vote early are recorded electronically for real-time accuracy, so there is no confusion at the polling sites on Election Day as to who has already voted early or by absentee.

All Grand Forks County residents, including UND students, may vote in the single early voting poll site. Nelson said voters are encouraged to bring identification as verification of their residential address to the polls.
