The Cities of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks have scheduled spraying for mosquitoes for Thursday between 8 p.m. and midnight. Wednesday's average mosquito trap count in Grand Forks is 63.
Although there have been no cases of West Nile virus identified within Grand Forks this year, a horse was identified positive in Grand Forks County. Health department officials are confident the virus is here and will be detected through the surveillance program.
The mosquito control trucks are identified and travel with a flashing yellow light. Residents may want to go inside just before their area is sprayed and stay inside for 20-30 minutes until the aerosol cloud dissipates. Residents should not run, walk or bike directly through the aerosol cloud behind the insecticide sprayer. Also, anyone who is sensitive to chemicals may want to close their windows during the ground spraying.
Residents are encouraged to wash all fresh fruits and vegetables before using them. Beekeepers are advised to cover their bees.
