A new report from AAA said the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in North Dakota has dropped to $2.81, the lowest since mid-April last year. Gasoline in Grand Forks on Monday night was just less than $2.60 a gallon.
The automobile club said the price, which is for unleaded with 10 percent ethanol, has fallen 87 cents a gallon over the past month. It said the record high of $4.08 was set July 17. AAA said the national average for a gallon of unleaded is $2.92. AAA said drivers in 16 states still pay an average of more than $3 per gallon, and drivers in 15 states average less than in North Dakota.
In northwest Minnesota, gas was below $2.50 at some locations between Crookston and Bagley along U.S. Highway 2 over the weekend.
