Gasoline prices around Grand Forks were below $2 per gallon Saturday while the average price in the state was $2.14, according to the website GasBuddy.com.
GasBuddy, which posts prices reported by users, showed prices at stations dropping $1.99 early Saturday morning.
According to AAA, Grand Forks' average price was $2.22 a year ago and $2.23 a month ago. The organization said in a news release Monday that falling oil prices and lower seasonal demand had led to the price drop, with about 20 percent of stations in the state selling regular gasoline for less than $2 per gallon.
Oil prices were at a six-week low recently due to a record level of crude oil inventories and lower expectations that OPEC countries would agree to reduce production, AAA said.
GasBuddy.com reported average prices in Fargo were between $1.88 and $1.93 Saturday.
