You had perhaps your best game of the season last week at Minnesota-Duluth. Did you expect a 16-carry, 83-yard performance being you're a true freshman?
I didn't expect 16 carries. I just go into every game and try to do what the coaches want me to do. That was quite a bit for me. They hit hard, too. I'm sore, but it's a good sore.
You stayed under the radar as a high school senior at Pepin, Wis. When you got here, you made an impression right away, and Sioux coaches talked about playing you as a true freshman. Were you surprised?
Going into the season, I just wanted to learn the offense and develop a camaraderie with the players, so I could get ready for next year. But during a prefall scrimmage, the coaches said I might be able to contribute this season, and they might pull the redshirt off of me. At first, I was a little skeptical and my parents were skeptical, too. But the coaches said they'd get me on the field as much as they could. It turned out to be a good decision.
What memories do you have from your first college game?
Coming from the smallest (high school) division in Wisconsin, the speed of the athletes and the speed of the game was completely different.
Ryan Chappell, a sophomore, is one of the top running backs in Division II. He's a year ahead of you, and he's likely to be starting for two more years. Any concerns about playing behind Ryan?
I have no problem with that. Just standing on the sidelines and watching him run is fun. He's taught me so much on and off the field. Ryan Chappell is in his own league.
