A freeze watch is in effect beginning late Friday through mid-morning Saturday for northwest and north-central North Dakota, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service says it's a result of cold Canadian high pressure that's expected to push south into the Northern Plains Friday night, creating mostly clear skies and light surface winds across northern North Dakota.
"These conditions combinted with surface dew point temperatures falling into the 20s could result in freezing temperatures and the possibility for widespread frost across northwest and north-central North Dakota," the weather service cautioned.
The watch included Divide, Burke, Renville, Bottineau, Rolette, Williams, Mountrail, Ward, McHenry and Pierce counties.
The freeze could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, the weather service said.
