Freeze warning issued for North Dakota, Minnesota; hazardous weather could kill sensitive vegetation

A hazardous weather outlook is in effect today for much of eastern North Dakota, as well as northwest and west central Minnesota, and a widespread freeze warning has been issued for tonight.

Areas of snow, rain, sleet and freezing drizzle could occur across the region today, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

Precipitation is expected to end during the morning in North Dakota, then during the afternoon or early evening hours today in northwest and west central Minnesota.

North winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected to continue through the Red River Valley through the morning hours.

Some area rivers are rising, and flows are expected to be elevated for the next several days, according to the report.

The weather service forecasts daytime high temperatures to range from 37 to 41 degrees today, with overnight lows anticipated between 22 to 32 degrees, with north winds between 10 and 20 mph.

The freeze warning will be in effect from 9 p.m. today until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Freezing temperatures will kill sensitive vegetation, the Weather Service said.

The skies are expected to clear off tonight, followed by sunny skies and cool weather Tuesday, with daytime highs of 48 to 56 degrees.
