Q. How old were you when you first made the Grand Forks Legion baseball team?

A. Fourteen. It was a pretty eye-opening experience. I went to play for the Blues, the younger team, but it was a terrible year and nobody went out for baseball. I tried out and there were only like 18 guys. That's basically a team right there. I ended up making the Royals. I just played the best that I could. It was a rough year; we only won like five games, but we had fun.

Q. Were you being recruited to play college baseball?

A. There were a few schools. When we went to Nebraska for a tournament, there were coaches there. That was just some small talk, nothing really big. Purdue was (in the mix). A couple of scouts came in here and there when I played for Central, but that's about it.

Q. When did you decide that hockey was the route you were going to go?

A. I would say my junior or senior year. When I started getting older, I started doing some all-star teams and stuff for hockey. I went to Chicago for the Chicago Showcase. I really never did something like that for football or baseball. When I started doing the extra things, you could tell that's what I was going for.

Q. You are third on the team in shots on goal. What's the reason for the rise in shots this season?

A. The one thing that I've noticed is that I'm getting one-timers off a little more than last year. I know I don't have the hardest shot in the world, but a one-timer can kind of surprise a goalie. So, I'm just trying to get the puck to the net and create opportunities.
