DICKINSON, N.D. -- A jury trial for a former Trinity High School principal accused of setting fire to the school has been rescheduled for July 23.

Thomas Sander, who is charged with arson and endangerment by fire, is scheduled for a pretrial conference July 1 at the Stark County Courthouse.

The trial originally was set for a week earlier but was pushed back to allow more time for preparation.

Southwest Judicial District Judge William Herauf will preside.

Sander is accused of setting fire in March to contents of a file cabinet in Trinity’s main office. He is charged with endangerment because he allegedly knew a teacher was in the building’s second-floor apartment at the time. He has pleaded not guilty.

The fire displaced Trinity’s junior high and high school students for the rest of the school year.

Both charges are Class B felonies, each carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
