Firm wins bid for tech park fence, gate

Fence and gate construction will begin for the Grand Sky unmanned aerial system tech park in two weeks after the Grand Forks County Commission gave approval at a meeting Tuesday.

Fence and gate construction will begin for the Grand Sky unmanned aerial system tech park in two weeks after the Grand Forks County Commission gave approval at a meeting Tuesday.

Tom Swoyer, president of Grand Sky Development Co., said only one bid was received due to contractors having busy schedules during this time of year, so Icon HD will be working on the project for about $320,000.

"This is an important project for the park because it allows us to install the fence that will separate the park from the air force base," he said, noting it would eliminate the hassle of having to go through the base's security gate.

Swoyer said Icon HD was also vetted through Grand Forks Air Force Base.

Aerospace and defense company Northrop Grumman plans to break ground at the 217-acre park in September after signing a lease in April.
