The Bemidji Fire Department responded to two fires Thursday evening at residences in Bemidji.

Both were relatively minor.

According to a press release from Fire Chief Dave Hoefer:

The first fire was reported at 6:13 p.m. on the 2500 block of Irvine Avenue Northwest. A fire was contained on a third-floor balcony of a 38-unit apartment complex. Firefighters contained the fire and prevented its spread into the apartment.

No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $2,000. The cause of the fire appears to be carelessly discarded smoking materials.
