The Bemidji Fire Department responded to two fires Thursday evening at residences in Bemidji.
Both were relatively minor.
According to a press release from Fire Chief Dave Hoefer:
The first fire was reported at 6:13 p.m. on the 2500 block of Irvine Avenue Northwest. A fire was contained on a third-floor balcony of a 38-unit apartment complex. Firefighters contained the fire and prevented its spread into the apartment.
No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $2,000. The cause of the fire appears to be carelessly discarded smoking materials.

The second fire was reported at 7:37 p.m. in the 2400 block of Kingston Lane Southwest. A grease fire was in the home. Firefighters responded and found that the occupant had extinguished the fire with the help of a neighbor.
Damage was limited to the first floor and is estimated to be around $1,500.
No injuries were reported. The fire is believed to be accidental.
