FARGO -- It was an alarm those staying at the Biltmore Hotel weren't expecting to wake up to.
About 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, a fire was reported at the hotel just west of Interstate 29 at Main Avenue in Fargo.
It caused some exterior damage to the building and no one was injured, Battalion Chief Dane Carley said.
A ladder truck was used to douse the flames on the courtyard side of the hotel, where the fire started, specifically the west side of the east wing, Carley said.
He said because of some remodeling construction in that area, it made the firefight easier.

"It worked out well. There was no one actually staying in this east wing, so we didn't have to evacuate anybody," Carley said.
Carley said it looked like the fire started near the remodeling area or involved materials used in the remodel, though he couldn't say specifically.
Jeffrey Ivesdal, of Edmore woke up to the blaring alarms just a few hours before his scheduled doctor's appointment.
"I know you can't sleep through that thing," Ivesdal said of the alarm.
Ivesdal said hotel staff came around the building alerting residents they should move their belongings, which he did.
Ivesdal said he never saw any flames, as his room was on the eastern edge of the hotel, though he could smell smoke in the hallway.
The extent of the damage to the building was not available early Wednesday morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
