FERGUS FALLS, Minn. – It took three tries, but the Fergus Falls School District finally got voters’ approval to revamp sports facilities at Kennedy Secondary School.
Voters on Tuesday approved a $2.7 million bond referendum to fund the school’s facilities plan by a 62 percent to 38 percent vote, with 2,528 voting yes and 1,535 voting against the plan, according to the district office.
The money will be used to replace the outdoor bleachers at the school’s football field, repair the football and soccer fields, expand the track, resurface tennis courts and improve the old baseball field. Indoors, the district wants to re-tile the swimming pool and install new lights and an electrical system in the Kennedy auditorium.
Those improvements will be paid for by a 1.23 percent increase in property taxes, according to the district office. For a $100,000 home, that would mean an extra $8.82 per year.

Tuesday’s vote was the district’s third try for voter approval to fund new facilities. Fergus Falls voters turned down a $6.3 million plan in November 2012 and rejected a $5.5 million plan in April 2013.
