A total of 290 Grand Forks County residents registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for state and federal disaster assistance by the agency's Tuesday deadline.
To date, the Small Business Administration has approved more than $2.4 million in low-interest loans for damages to housing and personal property related to tornado and severe storm damage in August, primarily in Northwood, N.D.
SBA's deadline to apply for physical damage to person property also was Tuesday.
Another $386,681 in state and federal disaster assistance has been provided through FEMA for disaster housing and for essential disaster-related needs.
FEMA and SBA assistance is available for disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

"FEMA is just one part of a bigger picture," FEMA spokeswoman Barb Sturner said. "Insurance, assistance from state and federal agencies, all of those pieces are important. It is not 100 percent, but it gives them a start in rebuilding their homes and lives."
Northwood, N.D., city administrator Marcy Douglas said the assistance and the help volunteer agencies has helped the town recover and begin to rebuild.
"It's been very helpful for our residents to start the road to recovery," Douglas said. "It's been great to help to assist with filling the gap of what insurance doesn't cover and what it's going to cost to rebuild."
