R.J. Zavoral & Sons, East Grand Forks, has been awarded a $12 million contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build the final phase of the Roseau, Minn., flood diversion project.
The final phase of construction includes completing approximately 6,500 feet of the diversion channel, and the channel inlet and restriction structures. The work is scheduled to be completed in fall 2015.
The corps and the city of Roseau began construction in 2009 and have invested more than $29 million, according to the corps.
The project consists of a 4.5-mile diversion channel that will reduce river flows within the city and more than 45 acres of recreation opportunities, including a scenic overlook, two interpretive sites, birding sites, nine miles of off-road vehicle trails, seven miles of multi-use trails and more than four miles of canoe trails.
