GRAFTON, ND (WDAZ-TV) - Imagine being held back by health problems and unable to do the job you love.

That's reality for a local man, but a group of volunteers are here to help.

Tom Hartje says a brain tumor causes seizures, so the doctor says he can't operate the heavy equipment needed to farm his 800 acres.

The volunteers from Farm Rescue heard about Hartje and headed to his Grafton farm.

A handful helped plant wheat and soybeans Wednesday.

Hartje says he's so thankful for the volunteers, but admits it's not easy watching others do all the work.

"It's very hard,” said Hartje. “I’m not one to just back off and not say anything and it's a learning experience for me to just back off and let these guys do their job and know it's going to be done well.”

Farm Rescue volunteers help families in North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and eastern Montana.
