BISMARCK -- A 3-year-old Fargo boy sustained six broken ribs and several cuts and bruises after his 29-year-old mother, also of Fargo, accidentally backed over him with her vehicle late Friday evening at a family reunion in north Bismarck.

About 10:53 p.m., the woman was moving her 2008 Chevrolet  from a driveway at the 2000 block of Pebble View Loop to allow another vehicle to move away, Bismarck Police Sergeant Mark Buschena said.

The child apparently feared his mother would leave without him and ran toward her vehicle.

"She was going to back her vehicle out. She heard (and felt) a thump. When she got out of her vehicle, she saw the 3-year-old crawl out from underneath the vehicle. The ambulance was called .... He suffered six broken ribs, several bruises/abrasions. He said he thought she was leaving without him and ran to the vehicle," Buschena said.

The child was taken for treatment at a Bismarck-area hospital, but there were no life-threatening injuries, Buschena said.

No arrests were made.
