DETROIT LAKES, Minn. - A 15-year-old Fargo boy suffered non-life threatening injuries in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning in Detroit Lakes.
The Detroit Lakes Police Department responded to the scene at 6:39 a.m. at 1112 South Shore Drive when the 1999 silver Pontiac the teen was driving hit some trees, according to the police department.
Authorities are not identifying the teen at this time due to the possibility he could be charged with driving without a license and reckless driving, Police Chief Kel Keena said.
The teen claimed an adult driver at a nearby house was driving the car at the time and that he was a passenger, but his injuries were inconsistent with what he told police, Keena said.
He was treated for cuts and bruises at the scene and later transported to a local hospital.

Officers also suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the accident that's still under investigation.
"There was preliminary testing done that showed the boy had been drinking," Keena said.
The vehicle apparently went 237 feet after the teen initially lost control of it, then hitting the trees, he added.
