FARGO - A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Fargo Police Department for shooting bottle rockets at traffic Friday morning.

Sean David Egstad of Fargo was reportedly sitting on the sidewalk near 25th Street and 15th Avenue South allegedly shooting bottle rockets at passing cars around 8 a.m. when Officer Patrick Fylling attempted to approach him.

Egstad was described as acting erratically and yelling at the cars. Fylling attempted to get him to walk away from his fireworks, but Egstad resisted and then allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with the officer, Lt. Joel Vettel said.

More officers arrived to the scene, and Egstad was restrained and arrested. After complaints that police had broken his leg, he was taken to the hospital.

Egstad was released to the hospital on his own recognizance, instead of being typically taken to jail, said Vettel.

Vettel said alcohol could have been a factor in the incident, too.

Egstad faces possible charges for resisting arrest and violating fireworks laws.
